A domain name is a location for a website. For example, www.WebMarketersJournal.com is an example of a domain name. A sub-domain name would be something like www.google.com/adsense. If your trying to decide what to name your website or blog. You should consider what your website will be about. For example, if your website is a retail site where you sell table placemats, you wouldn’t want to name it www.widgets.com. This would make the website appear a bit akward. Keep in mind that people will sometimes be attracted to your site based on how related your domain name is to what they are searching for. Now lets talk about how to register a domain name. One easy way is to go to a website called www.godaddy.com. When you reach the site, in the top right-hand corner you will see a link where you can create a new account. If you click on that you will be able to fill out all of your information and create an account with godaddy.com. If your wondering what you should call your website or blog, first keep in mind that your domain name shouldn’t be more than three words in length. You want to think of something catchy and related to your sites topic. Also, you will want to make sure that you register for a .com. This will make your website look more professional. I would suggest only registering your domain name for 1 – 2 years. You can always renew your domain name when that time comes. And believe me, godaddy will be contacting you when it is time to renew. Another thing to be aware of when registering your domain name is that you really shouldn’t be spending more than $10 bucks a year on your domain name. There are alot of other services that godaddy will try and sell you on, however if you are just starting a website, you probably will not need these other services.
